Unlimited Power 03: The Sinful Ruler

Chapter 339 Splitting

Jake didn\'t like the whole situation. However, he had to check, at least, if things were true. If it weren\'t, he could ignore the whole battle if there was actually taking place there.

"Can you move to a place nearby that world?" Jake asked. "Also, keep some useful items ready to deploy for me. I don\'t want to reveal this spaceship, but I don\'t want it so far away either."

"Understood. I have the map of that solar system. We can hide the spaceship in the shadow of one of the nearby planets," Virgilius said. "Starting preparations for the transference… transference complete."

"Really? I didn\'t notice anything," Jake said while frowning. "Oh, well… we don\'t have time for that, so I am going ahead."

Things began to change around the time everyone recovered their memories. Around that time, few people actually had any idea about the memories that they received… were they fake? Were they real? No one had any idea that those were the memories of their past lives… No one aside from a few of the guild masters and their close allies. The exceptions were Frederick, Milena, and Helena…

Around the time Jake vanished, Luke was called by all guild masters to give his report. They had discovered that he had lost sight of him completely after he cleared a dungeon and the next missions were too hard to clear fast enough to keep an eye on him.

"So, you are saying that despite your skill, you were unable to follow him?" Hugo asked.

"Yes," Luke replied. "Still, while that may sound convenient to say, I am of the belief that he isn\'t a threat. Truth be told, he had all the reasons to fight us due to the first ambush, but he doesn\'t want to live his life while being bound by his previous one."

"I trust Luke\'s judgment," Frederick said. "Besides, we can\'t judge anyone until they do something evil… I honestly doubt that we have the right anyway. Those memories told us that we faced him and tried to use numbers and even dirty tricks to catch him off guard. Those memories said that we lost under those favorable conditions. Insisting on treating him like an enemy isn\'t wise."

"Who cares about you and that incompetent man thinks?" Michel asked. "He failed on his mission. Everything else that he says will be only an excuse to make him look less pathetic."

"Mind your tongue, Michel," Milena said. "You don\'t have the skills to do a better job, so you don\'t have the right to criticize him."

"Mind my tongue?" Michel got up from his chair and slammed his hands on the table. "That bastard killed all of us! You all are acting like this isn\'t your problem. Who cares who started the fight? And for all intentions and purposes, he was the one who antagonized us for many years and started the events that caused our deaths! It is only a matter of time before he sees us as a threat again and does the same thing again."

"He didn\'t kill us. He killed an alternative version of us," Helena said. "Still, I can understand your feelings, given that we all recovered those memories."

"If you understand that, then our next course of action is pretty clear," Liu said.

"I agree. That guy has the weird power that makes him stronger the more he defeats others, so it is only a matter of time before he targets us," Leah added. "Only someone greedy for power would be able to obtain such a skill."

No one could say. Otherwise, everyone who had the innate skills knew that they were somehow connected to their personalities. From their perspective, Jake was supposed to be someone crazily power-hungry.

"If you try to do something like that, we will lose the faith of many of our members," Frederick said. "Jake is pretty famous, and people knew that he didn\'t do anything suspicious until now."

"We can take him down without letting anyone notice it," Rhobat said.

"Some people who are close to him will notice that something is off," Frederick said.

"We will dispose of them as well," Rhobat said. "What is the life of a few compared to the whole stability of the human species? We lost our former home, and we can\'t lose our place in this universe as well."

"I won\'t let that happen. You won\'t kill the members of my guild out of convenience," Frederick replied.

Rhobat, Leah, Michel, and Liu glared at Frederick. Half of the group wanted to dispose of Jake, while three of them didn\'t have any reason to kill him yet. The last one was Hugo, who was keeping a neutral position.

"It seems that we won\'t be able to reach a middle point when it comes to Jake\'s judgment," Hugo said. "We will talk about this at a future date."

Some of them couldn\'t help but frown. Usually, their meetings only end when they decide about the important things, so that was a first. Still, there wasn\'t much discussion about that since everyone had a lot of work to do.

"I don\'t think those four will give up on this," Frederick said. "What do you all think we should do?"

"We don\'t have many options," Luke replied. "Not doing anything will put a crack in the relationship of all guild masters, and doing something will damage our reputation, and rumors will begin to spread."

"It seems that the cooperation between guilds might end soon," Milena said.

"Nothing lasts forever, but I am worried about this," Helena said. "If we stop being allies, the interaction between members becomes quite tense, and it is only a matter of time before a massive problem emerges."

In fact, all of them were worried about that. The cooperation between the guild masters hasn\'t been that good as of late, so a situation like that might dissolve their alliance entirely… they said that the life of an individual couldn\'t be more important than the future of the human race, but they could tell that the other guild masters considered their need to kill Jake more important than anything else…
