My Wife is My Life!

Chapter 298

Ji Qingqing heaved a sigh of relief and expressed her trust in the doctor.

At 2 p.m. Lu Lixing was sent to the VIP ward for infusion. The nurse explained the instructions before leaving.

Director Wang had come with Ji Qingqing. As a director, he had to go and check on Lu Lixing because he got the infection during his show.

“Ms. Ji, I’m really sorry. I’m the one responsible for his illness.”

Ji Qingqing was confused. “Director Wang, why? What does this have to do with you?”

“Last night, Mr. Lu contacted me suddenly. He asked me to prepare some things such as fireworks, fairy wands, small light bulbs, and so on. After that, he asked me where he could find palm-size seashells. I gave him a casual reply, saying that he can find it by the reefs. Without hesitation, Mr. Lu went to the beach and rolled his sleeves to get them. I didn’t stop him.”

Director Wang sighed. “There’s no need to get the seashells in person as the hotel has ready-made ones. But Mr. Lu refused to listen to advice and decided to go get the seashells himself. I didn’t know that he injured his hand. When did it happen? Otherwise, I would have persuaded him not to soak in the water. The seawater is dirty, how can his wound not be infected?

“And the small light bulbs on the beach were something he borrowed from the hotel. The whole thing was a mess of wires, piling like a mountain. Mr. Lu refused to let us take care of it and placed it himself on the beach. He was exposed to the sea breeze for a long time. Mr. Lu was exposed to the cold air and even got soaked in the water. His hand was injured too! Even an iron body wouldn’t be able to stand it.”

Ji Qingqing gazed at Lu Lixing on the hospital bed, surprised for a few seconds. Then, she recalled the events from last night. She smiled as she said, “Director Wang, why would I blame you? Everything Lu Lixing has done was his choice. It has nothing to do with you. By the way, today is the last episode for the show, right? The crew must be very busy. Lu Lixing’s condition is stable, you don’t have to stay here. You can leave now.”

“Then, I’ll leave first. If President Lu wakes up, please give me a call?”

“Sure, no problem,” she said.

So, Director Wang left.

Only Ji Qingqing stayed behind.

Ji Qingqing sat at Lu Lixing’s bedside and gazed at his palm. It was heavily wrapped like a pig trotter’s hoof. She laughed. “Big pig’s foot. What can you do? Still thinking of working every day, aren’t you sick now? If I didn’t bring you to the hospital, you would have turned into a fool.

“But you don’t have to worry, I’m not an irresponsible person. Even if you do become a fool, I’ll take care of you for the rest of your life. After all, you’ve become a fool because of me.”

The person on the bed didn’t move.

Ji Qingqing sighed. “We’ve slept together for a long time now, so we can be considered as an old, married couple. Next time, don’t do these silly things, okay?”

Something buzzed in the room, followed by the ringing of a cell phone. Ji Qingqing stood up and picked it up in a hurry, then walked to the window to answer it.

The caller was Grandpa Lu. He asked, “When are you coming back with Lixing?”

Ji Qingqing gazed at the unconscious Lu Lixing on the bed. She explained in a small voice, “Grandpa, I’m sorry. The hotel is very good, so Lu Lixing and I decided to stay for two more days.”

Mr. Lu smiled and agreed. “Good! Stay for two more days, you can take a break.”

They talked for a few minutes more before Ji Qingqing hung up the phone.

It was better that the old man remained unaware.

Then, she returned to Lu Lixing’s bedside. She grabbed his half-exposed hand and absent-mindedly stared at him for a few moments before saying, “You better get well soon…”

The voice came to an abrupt end with a choked sob.

When Lu Lixing woke up, the sun had set and the room was dim. The moment he woke up, dizziness swept over him, making him feel uncomfortable.

He closed his eyes for a moment to adapt to the discomfort, then, he opened them again.

I’m in the hospital right now?

Apart from his car accident, this was the only other time he came to the hospital as a patient.

Ji Qingqing slept at his bedside, holding onto his hand. Slowly, he pulled his hand away and tucked a few strands of hair that covered her face. His pale lips smiled.

Seeing Ji Qingqing wearing thin clothes, Lu Lixing moved to get up, so he could get down from the bed and get the thin blanket on the sofa but he hadn’t eaten for more than ten hours. His sickness took away most of his strength, leaving him weak and sore. He tried to move but accidentally made some noise, waking up Ji Qingqing who was sleeping lightly in the process.

As soon as she woke up, she touched Lu Lixing’s wound.

“Hiss… be gentle,” he said in a low and hoarse voice. His throat was dry.

Ji Qingqing looked surprised. He placed his hand on his forehead, and then placed it on hers to make a comparison.

“Is there something wrong?” she asked.

“Pour me a glass of water.”

Ji Qingqing pressed the call button on the headboard and went to get water for Lu Lixing. When she turned back, he was already sitting up on his own. He leaned his head on the headboard, his face a little pale.

One of his hands was receiving an infusion while the other was injured, so Ji Qingqing fed him the glass of water, gently carrying the glass to his lips.
